The ever-popular compact gets a 50+ miles per gallon hybrid drive system for 2020

For years the Toyota Corolla has been one of the most popular cars on the market. Timeless styling, classic Toyota reliability, and a generous offering of standard features have long made it one of the best cars money can buy and in 2020, the Corolla will take another massive leap forward.

Utilizing the hybrid system currently fitted to the Toyota Prius, the 2020 Corolla is estimated at 53 miles per gallon in the city and 52 highway miles per gallon. These numbers are nearly at the top of the class for the compact hybrid category and standing on the shoulders of the well-known Prius give it a credibility that few others can match. All of this is achieved by mating a 1.8-liter inline-four cylinder engine with two electric motors, a continuously variable transmission, and a nickel-metal-hydride battery, technology that has been time-tested to deliver reliable performance for years to come.

The exterior has also been redesigned for the new model year and looks better than ever. LED headlights, a racy grille design, and sweeping lines make this possibly the best-looking Corolla yet. These numbers are once again near the top of the class, and the 2.0-liter version throws down 169 horsepower to go along with the excellent fuel economy, so it’s as fun as it is practical.
