Powertrain Features
The 2024 4Runner has a V-6 engine block that produces up to 270 horsepower. This 4.0-liter engine delivers 278 pound-feet of peak torque. Displacing only 2.4 L, the 2024 Highlander's four-cylinder powertrain whips out 265 hp. This turbocharged motor spits out 310 lb-ft of torque at various tachometer levels. An eight-speed automatic transmission system processes output from the compact turbo engine. This gearbox includes the iconic Direct Shift branding. A five-speed automatic gearbox with the Sequential Shift Mode propels the 4Runner. You could add a part-time 4WD system to this premium Toyota SUV. Similarly, the Highlander offers a conventional AWD system or the Dynamic Torque AWD. The 4Runner gets even better off-road traction when fitted with the Torsen differential. Both Toyota SUVs are available with the latest Multi-Terrain Select mechanical technology. This advanced feature has specific modes for driving on mud, rocks, sand, and dirt. The Active Traction Control provides a better grip for the 4Runner's tires. With an extra boost from the Downhill Assist Control, this model easily handles steep slopes. A 9.6-inch ground clearance certainly enhances the vehicle's incredible off-road skills. Additionally, the Crawl Control keeps the vehicle balanced on elevated terrains.

The 2024 4Runner boasts an infotainment system with an 8.0-inch display and Dynamic Navigation. You could get a 12.3-inch multimedia system on the 2024 Highlander. This high-end infotainment center has wireless mirroring for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Engineered by the legendary JBL brand, 11 speakers are optional on the Highlander. Also designed by this company, 15 speakers are available on the 4Runner. Both Toyota SUVs offer trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Satellite Radio. These three-row models are equipped with exclusive Connected Services. Both vehicles provide complimentary 12-month access to Remote Connect. You'll even get complimentary 30-day trials to Wi-Fi Connect on select trims. Additionally, the Highlander is available with two 120-V power ports.

The 2024 4Runner offers up to a dozen beverage holders. The 2024 Highlander has two additional beverage holders. Families will get a dual-zone automatic climate control system on the 4Runner. A three-zone HVAC system cools and heats the Highlander. You'll appreciate the durability of the SofTex upholstery on the seats. Both vehicles are available with genuine leather trimming. If you want additional comfort, get climate-controlled front seats for either model. A heated steering wheel is available on each Toyota SUV. The 4Runner and Highlander offer tremendous versatility with flat-folding seats in the second row. Captain's chairs are available in the Highlander's middle row.
